Animal Kingdom project: Kids 2

“An animal´s eyes have the power to speak a great language” Martin Buber.

World animal day is celebrated on October 4, in honor of Saint Francis Asis, patron saint of animals and the environment.
However, in Argentina, we celebrate it on April 29, as a tribute to Ignacio Lucas Albarracín´s death.  He was, together with Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, the founder of the Argentine society for the protection of animals. So, why not to take this opportunity to do a cross curricular activity this month with Kids 2 students, and learn a bit more about animals?

First of all, we started talking about our favourite animal, their appearance and abilities, using vocabulary related to environment, parts of the body and adjectives. As well as this, children revised grammar structures.
In order to learn English through active and creative construction, we also built masks and we acted as if we were our favourite animal.
We will also learn this month, how to classify animals according to: Animal groups(birds , reptiles, mammals, amphibians and insects), abilities, habitats and food.

Last but not least, I think it´s important to mention that I will teach children  to appreciate and respect nature, as well as enlarge their knowledge about animals and environment, taking into account that… “Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty” Albert Einstein.
